about us

The mission of the Nutrigenomics Consortium (NGC) is to generate and validate nutrigenomics research data and translate them into predictions of the beneficial or adverse health effects of dietary components. The NGC aims to perform excellent nutritional research focusing on diet-related metabolic stress, the early and reversible stage of metabolic syndrome or insulin resistance syndrome. Central to insulin resistance syndrome is an imbalance between dietary energy intake and energy expenditure, strongly modulated by genetic factors.

Prof. Dr. Michael Müller acts as scientific director of the NGC and is assisted by a project manager for the organisational aspects of the project.

The NGC consists of the industrial and knowledge partners working together in the Top Institute (TI) Food and Nutrition and the knowledge institutes working together in the Centre for Medical Systems Biology (CMSB). The consortium’s research is exclusively carried out at these two centres. TI Food and Nutrition has engaged two external partners specifically for the NGC (University of Aachen/Germany and Groningen University/NL).
